Overview

Sequoia 1960 Built in 1960, K-5 Sequoia Elementary is an attractive school located in Clairemont. We embrace all cultures and are proud of our student diversity. Sequoia is a VAPA Focus school now. All of our students will be able to explore their creative interests in Art, Music, Dance and Theater. Our curriculum will embrace these aspects throughout the day. Therefore, you might find students dancing and singing while learning about the Solar System during Science time. Furthermore, students will receive direct instruction in Art, Dance, Music and Theater as well. At the end of the year, the students will display what they've learned on VAPA night!

Although we incorporate the arts in our curriculum, we also stay focused on standards-based instruction, with an emphasis on literacy and math. We hold high expectations for all students. Students need to be at school, do their best work and respect others. We consider the partnership between home and school vital for student success.

We continually enhance parent involvement through participation in PTA, special activities/workshops, site-based committee membership and classroom volunteering. We have many opportunities for parents to get involved. These activities include our Fall Carnival, Read Across America night, movie night and much, much more.

Local business partnerships enrich Sequoia's student activities. Partners include Walmart, IHOP, S. W. Hackett Masonic Lodge, Boys and Girls Club of Clairemont, and Junior Achievement. We conduct Student Awards Assemblies throughout the year for academics and citizenship. All students perform at these assemblies. We have a Monday patriotic flag ceremony every week. Participation in Student Council, Talent Show, walk/jog-a-thon fundraiser, PTA Carnival and other activities make Sequoia a productive and enjoyable place to be. Come visit us!
